"A Change for the better . . ."
My name is Tony Clayton. I came to Epworth Village in early 1995 and left in mid-1996. I was here for what seemed like an eternity. Now, when I look back, time flew. While at Epworth Village, I learned about myself through group meetings, the friends I met at Epworth and the staff. I learned that what I did to get me to Epworth was wrong and that there was a reason why I did it.
Epworth was good for me in that it molded me into an individual person that can think on his own. The staff was tremendous in helping me through difficult times. For those of you currently here, who think life is horrible, I have news for you. You are young and life is just beginning for you. I would recommend that all the current clients of Epworth take a step back and look at the big picture.
When I say look at the big picture, think about where you want to be in five, ten or twenty years from now. Do you want to be living on the streets or in a nice home with an excellent job? I would suggest to you, instead of making life more difficult on yourself, try to work out your problems with the excellent people here at Epworth. The people at Epworth won’t be at your side your whole life, so take advantage of it and gain wisdom from their teachings.
What I learned at Epworth has been priceless in my life. I mentioned I am an individual now and can think on my own. Before Epworth, I always had somebody else thinking for me. If somebody is always thinking for us, when the time comes for us to think on our own, we won’t know how. This generally isn’t good and usually ends in a bad situation. Having the ability to think for ourselves and do for ourselves is priceless. I have developed into an educated individual using the resources I have gained. Epworth taught me to use these resources. I am currently in college working on my Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. When I graduate, I hope to get a rewarding job with great pay. I know right now you might think this is unthinkable.
But remember, someday the unthinkable may become real.
