2008 Epworth Village Employee of the Year, Jason Ewing

Pictured is Jason Ewing, maintenance department team member, receiving the 2008 Epworth Village Employee of the Year Award from Tom McBride, Executive Director of Epworth Village.
It was a fitting place to honor a great person at the Christmas lunch at Mills Dining Room at Epworth Village. The boys and staff members filled the room to share food and the spirit of the season, being thankful for the birth of Christ and for each other. On this particular occasion, it was one very special Epworth employee who received thanks for all he has done for the agency.
The maintenance crew at Epworth was sitting around the table together as they do most every day at lunch. Yet Wednesday, December 17 was different because Tom McBride, Executive Director at Epworth Village, had an important announcement to make.
“This person exemplifies what Epworth is all about,” were some of the words McBride used to describe Jason Ewing, the 2008 Epworth Village Employee of the Year.
Needless to say, the hardworking and ever-optimistic member of the maintenance department was shocked to hear his name. He later said, “I couldn’t stop shaking.” With a broad smile on his face, he went up to receive a plaque from the village and then Joel Weisheit, co-director of the maintenance department, presented him with an “extra” precious gift. Ewing broke into laughter as he was presented with a “golden plunger” complete with an engraved handle with his name and the date of the award.
“Jason does an awesome job,” Weisheit said. “He is the type of guy, if you ask him to do something; he’ll be right on it and then shortly after he is asking what needs to be done next. He always has a positive attitude. It doesn’t matter the job, he’ll say, ‘It’s something to do and that’s better than just sitting around.’ He’s an excellent employee all the way around.”
Ewing said his approach to life is simple, “I try and treat people like I want to be treated.”
“There are a lot of people around here who deserve this award far more than I do,” Ewing said. “This place really cares about their staff. I really love who I work with and for.”
Jason, we all love you back. Congratulations.
