A Gift and a Challenge

The following letter was read at the May meeting of the Epworth Village Board of Directors:

Dear Tom:

This letter is to confirm my commitment to donate $150,000 to Epworth Village for its new residential treatment facility.

Roy and I were delighted to hear of this project and wanted to discuss with you how we could help. Epworth Village provides services for youth and their families that really make a difference. It’s good to be a part of that work.

Sincerely,
Gloria Dinsdale

P.S. We understand you have raised $350,000 toward your goal of $600,000. If you can raise another $50,000, I will match it, so your goal will be achieved.

Roy and Gloria Dinsdale have been long time supporters of Epworth Village. The couple from Palmer, NE has impacted the state and nation with a variety of combined business and civic expertise including; cattle feeding, farming and banking ventures.

Roy’s father and uncle chartered the State Bank in Palmer in 1939. Roy’s own banking ventures began in 1959 when he and his brother purchased the National Bank of Neligh. The banking side of the business has grown to more than 70 locations in Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico and Texas.

Gloria has been an active member of the Palmer Women’s Club, is active in the United Methodist Church, belongs to PEO and serves on the Nebraska Arts Council. The Dinsdales celebrated 50 years of marriage in October of 1999. They have three children and ten grand children.

Family values and faith are at the core of the couple’s personal mission in life. “We just have real feelings and concern for children and families. We think the facility at Epworth and the staff is exemplary. We believe the Epworth Village mission is not being served in many places and we want to help expand this mission for the clientele they serve,” Gloria said.

Gloria and Roy are extremely humble about their gift to help build the new Residential Treatment Center. However, they were willing to be interviewed because they wanted to encourage others to help accept the challenge they set forth. They believe that with the support of others who have a heart for the Epworth Village mission, the $50,000 matching challenge they set forth can be achieved.

“There are so many good causes out there,” Gloria said. “But we believe children are the most vulnerable and need help the most. We are hoping that this will do a lot of good.”
