Quilts at Epworth Village

“When life throws you scraps, make a quilt.” ~ Author Unknown

Epworth Village here in York has a long history with the quilt.

It is a well known fact that a quilt is much more than a “blanket” or a covering. A quilt is a gift; handmade with love by caring hands. For the clients of Epworth Village a quilt provides much more than warmth; it is a constant. That’s because each boy who enters Epworth Village receives a quilt; a quilt that becomes their own.

While at Epworth Village colorful quilts serve as bedspreads. Traveling with a client after dismissal; quilts serve as reminders of the kindness and caring of others.

Over the years dedicated United Methodist Women, quilting groups and individuals have provided Epworth Village with the over 200 quilts needed each year ensuring each and every youth receives a quilt of their very own.

If you or your group is interested in making quilts made for Epworth Village youth here are a few things you should know: The quilts will be used on twin size beds. Size of the quilts should be approximately 66W x 90L (inches). Sturdy cotton or denim materials, patterns and colors fitting for young men are appreciated. Please no pinks, lavender or purple or too many flowers, etc. as we have all boys here.

Thanks so much for your interest in our Quilt Program. Please feel free to call Marcia Schlegelmilch at 402-362-3353 ext. 1135 or email mschlegel@epworthvillage.org for further information.
