Epworth Learning Center

Youth placed at this level of care present their primary difficulty in an educational setting. This service is open to youth that reside within commuting distance of York, NE. Youth must be of school age in grades 1-12 and may be either male or female. The youth reside in their home, foster home, or other agency. Such youth may have a combination of behavioral and academic challenges that require intervention outside the scope of the local school district.

All of the youth placed at this level of care have a verified handicapping condition recognized by the State Department of Education. These children receive services very similar to those meeting medical necessity although there is no set minimum number of therapeutic hours. They have an individualized plan that includes both educational and therapeutic services, as well as a transition plan back to their home school. The average time a youth is in this level of care is one academic year.

Scott WilesScott Wiles has been a part of the Epworth Village family for three years. Recently he was named the new Lead Teacher for the Epworth Village Learning Center (EVLC). In this role, Wiles acts as the head of the school aspect of the Epworth program. Wiles was born in California and moved with his family to Seward, Nebraska at age 13. He attended Doane College, graduating with degrees in Theater and English. He later returned to Doane to attain a degree in Education. Wiles’s first career move was serving as an English teacher in Milligan. He then taught at Lincoln Parkview Christian before accepting the position as teacher at EVLC.
